For our most recent hunt we decided to add a charity element, which we will do with all future hunts. For that hunt we collected donations for an amazing non-profit: Floating Doctors. The video is the story of why my friend Ben decided to start Floating Doctors.

Please watch the video and share it far and wide. If you can donate a few dollars, every little bit helps. They have a donation button on their site. Even if you cannot donate right now, please spread the word about what they are doing.

For those of you in the Southern California area, I am organizing a Kayaking fundraiser for them on Sept 19th. It would be an all day kayak around Santa Cruz Island, starting from Oxnard or Ventura. Each participant would need to raise $300 or more. You DO NOT need to know how to kayak, you just need to know how to swim. If you are interested in more information please email me.

Floating Doctors: “A dedicated crew on a 12-month medical relief voyage to the coast of Central America and the Eastern Pacific aboard their 76’ sailboat, the Southern Wind. The team will set up mobile tented medical clinics ashore, providing free health care and preventative medicine to developing world coastal communities.

In each country, Dr. La Brot and the crew will use a unique combination of traditional medicine and cutting-edge technology to provide preventative medicine and health education to over 15,000 patients, as well as coordinating a network of visiting physicians and medical students from around the world.

Dr. La Brot and his team will face challenges both on the seas and on shore in tackling current problems and reducing the future burden of disease—their determination, compassion and work ethic will encourage others to stand up and join team ‘Floating Doctors.’”
